ΠΡΟΒΑΡΕΣΕΙΣ ΤΟΥ X-RAY.

Αν ο Constantine Hering δεν είχε ποτέ δώσει στην ομοιοπαθητική επιστήμη τίποτα άλλο παρά την αξιοθαύμαστη παθογένεσή του για το Lachesis, θα θυμόταν με ευγνωμοσύνη για πάντα ο ομοιοπαθητικός κόσμος.

Αν ο Bernhardt Fincke δεν είχε ποτέ δώσει στην ομοιοπαθητική επιστήμη τίποτα άλλο παρά την πρόβαρσή του για τις ακτίνες X, το όνομά του, επίσης, θα κρατούνταν σε ευγνώμονη μνήμη από τη μεταγενέστερη γενιά, γιατί οι δυνατότητές του στην ίαση πολλών από τα πιο επίμονα χρονία νοσήματα φαίνονται σχεδόν απεριόριστες.

Οφείλουμε στον Dr. John B. Campbell, έναν από τους αρχικούς προβαρστές, την ανακάλυψη της μεγάλης αξίας αυτού του δυναμικού παράγοντα στην αφύπνιση της αντιδραστικής ζωτικότητας του οργανισμού, τόσο νοητικά όσο και σωματικά, και έτσι στην ανάδειξη στην επιφάνεια κατασταλμένων συμπτωμάτων ατόμων που υποφέρουν από συνδυασμό δυσκρασίας, τα μιάσματα του Hahnemann.

Αυτό ισχύει ιδιαίτερα για τα βαθιά ριζωμένα συνταγματικά νοσήματα, συκοτικής φύσης, τα οποία τόσο συχνά καταλήγουν σε κακοήθη νόσο, ειδικά σε καρκίνο.

Όταν ο συκοτικός ή συφιλιτικός ιός εμβολιάζεται πάνω σε ψωρική ή φυματιώδη διάθεση· όταν από την πενικότητα των εμφανιζόμενων συμπτωμάτων είναι σχεδόν αδύνατο να είναι κανείς βέβαιος για την επικρατούσα διάθεση, εξαιτίας του οποίου το καλύτερα επιλεγμένο αντιψωρικό, Calcarea, Medorrhinum, Psorinum, Sepia, Sulphur, Syphilinum ή Tuberculinum, αδυνατεί να ανακουφίσει ή να αφύπνιση την υπερνικημένη ζωτικότητα σε επαρκικό βαθμό ώστε να απορρίψει ή να φέρει στην επιφάνεια το επικρατούν τοξίνη, οι ακτίνες X υπόσχονται να είναι το θεραπευτικό μας φάρμακο.

Κάθε ιατρός που έχει έστω και περιορισμένη εμπειρία στη θεραπεία της τοξικής επίδρασης των ακτίνων X είτε σε οστό είτε σε μαλακό ιστό δεν θα χρειαστεί καμία απόδειξη του βαθιά ριζωμένου χαρακτήρα του και της ακραίας δυσκολίας, υπό οποιαδήποτε μορφή θεραπείας, να αφύπνιση την υπερνικημένη ζωτικότητα και να επιτύχει ίαση.

Ένα έγκαυμα από ακτίνες X, όπως λέγεται, είτε του οστού είτε του δέρματος, είναι σχεδόν αδύνατο να επουλωθεί, και παρά τις καλύτερες προσπάθειες του ικανότερου θεραπευτή, η καλύτερη γνωστή στη σημερινή ιατρική επιστήμη θεραπεία είναι συχνά μοιραία.

Ιδού ένα πεδίο δράσης στο οποίο το δυναμοποιημένο δυναμικό φάρμακο υπόσχεται να είναι ασυναγώνιστο, γιατί δεν υπάρχει γνωστός ομοιοπαθητικός παράγοντας, είτε ακατέργαστος είτε δυναμοποιημένος, που στην πρωτογενή δράση του να είναι τόσο βαθιά ριζωμένος ή μακράς δράσης στα αποτελέσματά του. Ούτε υπάρχει κανένας γνωστός παράγοντας που θα καταστείλει πιο σίγουρα και θα καταστήσει ανίατα πολλά χρονία νοσήματα όσο αυτός, ή κανένας που να απεικονίζει καλύτερα αυτό που είπε ο Shakespeare πριν από τόσο καιρό, ότι,

«Οι ανόητοι ορμούν εκεί όπου οι άγγελοι διστάζουν να πατήσουν», ή εκεί όπου

«Λίγη μάθηση είναι επικίνδυνο πράγμα,

Πιες βαθιά ή μην αγγίξεις καθόλου την πηγή του Πιήριου.»

Δεν υπάρχει θεραπευτικός παράγοντας που τόσο συχνά θεραπεύει, και τόσο συχνά αποτυγχάνει εκεί όπου νομίζουμε ότι οφείλει να θεραπεύσει, στη εμπειρική του χρήση, όσο αυτός. Αν, όταν η εμπειρική του χρήση έχει αφύπνιση την λανθάνουσα ζωτικότητα και έχει επαναφέρει κατασταλμένα συμπτώματα, μπορούσαμε να τα παρατηρήσουμε σωστά και να τα ερμηνεύσουμε, και για αυτά να βρούμε το ομοιοπαθητικό ομοειδές, τι δυνατότητες κείτονται στο μέλλον;

Όπως υποστήριζαν οι Hahnemann, Hering και Fincke, και όπως απέδειξε το έργο της Αυστριακής Ένωσης Προβαρστών, το δυναμικό δυναμοποιημένο φάρμακο είναι ο κύριος παράγοντας τόσο στην πρόβαρση όσο και στην ίαση.

Όπως το Magnetis Polus Australis και τα άλλα αζύγιστα, ο ηλεκτρισμός και οι ακτίνες X είναι και τα δύο ικανά για δυναμοποίηση, και το δυναμοποιημένο δυναμικό φάρμακο είναι ακριβώς τόσο ανώτερο από το ακατέργαστο φάρμακο όσο τα Aurum, Lycopodium, Silicea ή Sulphur.

Μια πολύ ικανή περιγραφή της ανακάλυψης των ακτίνων X από τον καθηγητή Roentgen δόθηκε στο Homeopathic Physician (Μάρτιος 1896), από τον Dr. Walter M. James, και κατέληγε με τα λόγια:

«Γιατί να μην επιδιώξει ο ομοιοπαθητικός να προμηθευτεί μια πρόβαρση των επιδράσεων των ακτίνων X πάνω στην ζωική οικονομία του ανθρώπου; Ένα ελκυστικό πεδίο ανοίγεται εκεί στους πειραματιστές της σχολής μας. Μακάρι να καλλιεργηθεί σύντομα!»

27 Μαρτίου 1897.

Ένα φιαλίδιο ενός δραχμίου γεμάτο με απόλυτο αλκοόλ εκτέθηκε σε σωλήνα Crook σε λειτουργία για μισή ώρα, και έπειτα ανέβηκε στην έκτη εκατοστική δυναμοποίηση. Με αυτό διαβρέχθηκαν τα μικρότερα γλοβούλια και τα φιαλίδια που τα περιείχαν προσφέρθηκαν στα μέλη της Brooklyn Hahnemannian Union, που συνεδρίαζε το ίδιο βράδυ σε τακτική συνεδρία.

Φυσικά όλοι ήταν περίεργοι να δοκιμάσουν το νέο φάρμακο και πήραν αμέσως μικρό αριθμό γλοβουλίων στη γλώσσα, και ιδού! άρχισε να αποκαλύπτει την ύπαρξή του αμέσως, και κατά τις δύο ώρες που ήμασταν μαζί παρατηρήθηκε ένας αριθμός συμπτωμάτων, τα οποία ανακοινώθηκαν αμέσως και καταγράφηκαν από τον επιμελή Γραμματέα μας. Μερικά από τα μέλη από τότε επηρεάστηκαν σοβαρά, ώστε δεν θα δοκίμαζαν για κανέναν λόγω άλλο από εκείνη τη μυστηριώδη δύναμη.

Ακολουθεί μια αφήγηση της δράσης του πάνω στους διάφορους προβαρστές, οι οποίοι μέχρι τότε ήταν τελείως υγιείς, και η οποία διήρκεσε από την αρχή έως δύο μήνες. Η δράση αποκαλύπτει όχι μόνο νέα συμπτώματα, αλλά ανέσυρε και πολλά παλιά.

Αν υποτεθεί ότι το γυαλί είναι αδιαφανές στις ακτίνες X, δεν ήταν έτσι στην περίπτωσή μας, γιατί το αλκοόλ στο φιαλίδιο σίγουρα επηρεάστηκε από αυτές, όπως δείχνουν τα αποτελέσματα των προβάρσεων. Αν η ακτίνα X διεισδύει σε ορισμένους ιστούς του σώματος ώστε να καταστήσει ορατή την κατάσταση των αδιαφανών οργάνων, όπως των οστών και των ξένων σωμάτων που περιέχονται στο σώμα, δείχνει επίσης τη διείσδυσή της σε εκείνο το αόρατο εσωτερικό του ανθρώπου, το οποίο βρίσκεται υπό την κυριαρχία της ζωτικής δύναμης.

Η Dr. Alice B. Campbell, μία από τις προβαρστές, είπε:

«Ο Dr. Fincke χάρισε σε καθεμία μας ένα μπουκάλι από τις ακτίνες X, και είπε: "Είναι δείγμα, μπορείτε να πάρετε μια δόση." Καθεμία μας πήρε μια δόση. Νόμιζα ότι ήταν τόσο χαμηλή δυναμοποίηση που δεν θα είχε καμία επίδραση, και αυτός ήταν ο λόγος που την πήρα. Δεν ξέραμε τι θα έκανε. Πήρα μόνο τη μία δόση.»

Ήμουν στην καλύτερη υγεία και διάθεση όταν άρχισα να χρησιμοποιώ τις ακτίνες X· ήμουν υγιές κορίτσι, δεν είχα ποτέ ιατρό μέχρι την εγκυμοσύνη.

24 Νοεμβρίου 1906. Μια κυρία, ηλικίας 56 ετών, κληρονομικός καρκίνος στην οικογένειά της· η μητέρα πέθανε από αυτό στα 52. Για έναν τραυματισμό του δεξιού μαστού, που κατέληξε σε όγκο, ο οποίος πιθανώς θα εξελισσόταν σε καρκίνο, χρησιμοποιήθηκαν οι ακτίνες X για μήνες, μείωσαν το μέγεθός του και ανακούφισαν τελείως τον πόνο. Λίγο καιρό μετά εμφανίστηκε μια δυσκαμψία του αυχένα στην αριστερή πλευρά, στην οποία δόθηκε λίγη προσοχή.

Ξαφνικά ένα πρωί πήγε στη δεξιά πλευρά, με έντονο πόνο, από τον οποίο δεν έχω ξαναμείνει ελεύθερη ούτε στιγμή από τότε. Ο πόνος είναι έντονος κάθε νύχτα και εμφανίζεται σε παροξυσμούς κατά τη διάρκεια της ημέρας. Ξαφνικά «σφιξίματα» επιτίθενται πρώτα στη μία πλευρά, έπειτα στην άλλη < από το κρύο, και η στροφή του κεφαλιού προκαλεί σχεδόν σπασμούς. Ο πόνος είναι πιο έντονος πίσω από τα αυτιά, στην μαστοειδή απόφυση.

Ένα ναυτιώδες τρίξιμο ακούγεται μεταξύ των οστών της αυχενικής μοίρας της σπονδυλικής στήλης κατά τη στροφή του κεφαλιού. Το δέρμα πίσω από τα αυτιά κόκκινο και ευαίσθητο στην αφή.

Το τρίξιμο ακούγεται και γίνεται αισθητό σε σχεδόν όλες τις αρθρώσεις, ειδικά τους ώμους· οι πόνοι των δακτύλων είναι «σταθεροί», αλλά καμιά φορά εμφανίζονται σε αιχμηρά «σφιξίματα», έπειτα σε ραβδώσεις κατά μήκος των νεύρων < από την κίνηση του κεφαλιού ή του αυχένα· η κίνηση του κεφαλιού στο μαξιλάρι τη νύχτα είναι μαρτύριο. Καμιά φορά ο πόνος ανακουφίζεται με τελείως ήρεμη ακινησία, άλλο πάλι η ήπια κίνηση ανακουφίζει.

Έχω διαβάσει όλα τα συμπτώματα του δυσκίνητου αυχένα στους Lippe, Hering, Raue, T. F. Allen και άλλα έργα· το ενδεδειγμένο φάρμακο απέτυχε να μου δώσει την παραμικρή ανακούφιση.

1 Δεκεμβρίου 1906. Τις τελευταίες τρεις ημέρες η αριστερή πλευρά του κεφαλιού και του αυχένα πονάει έντονα και συνεχώς, καμιά φορά παροξυσμοί σφιγκτικού πόνου στο νωτιαίο σχοινί, από τον αριστερό ώμο προς το κεφάλι, και αιχμηρός διαπεραστικός πόνος στο κεφάλι, πίσω και πάνω από το αριστερό αυτί. Τα νωτιαία σχοινιά νιώθουν πολύ κοντά. Η μόνη ανακούφιση που έχω είναι το περπάτημα στο δωμάτιο.

Το δέρμα είναι τόσο ευαίσθητο, δεν ανέχομαι την παραμικρή επαφή, αν και η σκληρή πίεση ανακουφίζει για μια στιγμή. Είμαι σχεδόν τρελή από τον πόνο. (Ο Dr. G-- έχει πει συχνά τον τελευταίο μήνα ότι φοβόταν ότι έπαιρνα υπερβολικές ακτίνες X· εγώ όχι, αν και θεωρούσα πολύ περίεργο το ότι δεν μπορούσε να ανακουφίσει τον πόνο μου.)

9 Ιανουαρίου 1907. Δεν έχω πάρει θεραπεία με ακτίνες X από τις 23 Νοεμβρίου. Δεν έχω βγει από το σπίτι για έξι εβδομάδες. Υπέφερα βασανιστήρια για τέσσερις εβδομάδες σε κάθε κίνηση του κεφαλιού, του αυχένα ή των ώμων. Οι νευραλγικοί πόνοι ήταν βασανιστικοί, και τα καλύτερα επιλεγμένα φάρμακα είχαν λίγη ή καμία επίδραση.

Το Spigelia ανακούφισε εν μέρει την ένταση των πόνων, αλλά εμφανίστηκαν στη δεξιά πλευρά του κεφαλιού και του αυχένα, χωρίς όμως να αφήσουν ούτε στιγμή την αριστερή πλευρά. Η Atropin ανακούφισε τον δεξιό πόνο για 24 ώρες, αλλά ο αυχένας και ο ώμος είναι ακόμα δύσκαμπτοι. Τώρα δεν έχω έντονο πόνο, αν ξαπλώσω ακίνητη στην αριστερή πλευρά του προσώπου και του σώματος, αλλά δεν μπορώ να σηκώσω το κεφάλι από το μαξιλάρι χωρίς τα χέρια μου, και τότε μόνο με αργή κυκλική κίνηση.

Μπορώ να καθίσω ή να σταθώ για 15 ή 30 λεπτά, και τότε αρχίζουν σφιγκτικοί, διαπεραστικοί, θαμνοί πόνοι πίσω από το αριστερό αυτί, και στους μύες της αριστερής πλευράς του αυχένα, και πρέπει να ξαπλώσω στην αριστερή πλευρά, και σε λίγα λεπτά είμαι ελεύθερη από πόνο. Το τσουξίμο, συσπαστικό συναίσθημα των μυών ανακουφίστηκε, αλλά ο πόνος στο πίσω μέρος του κεφαλιού παραμένει επίμονος. Το μασάζ, καμιά φορά, έχει δώσει ελαφριά ανακούφιση, άλλες φορές η παραμικρή επαφή είναι τόσο επώδυνη που δεν μπορεί να ανεχθεί. Η θερμότητα ανακουφίζει καμιά φορά τους πόνους, αλλά το Arsenic όχι.

14 Ιανουαρίου. Βελτιώνομαι κάπως· χθες μπόρεσα να ξαπλώσω με πολύ ψηλότερο μαξιλάρι, πρώτη φορά σε έξι εβδομάδες. Θα μπορούσα να αντέξω τους πόνους αν ανακουφιζόταν ο διαπεραστικός, θαμνός, σφιγκτικός πόνος στο οστό πίσω από το αριστερό αυτί, που κάνει την εμφάνισή του κάθε φορά που κάθομαι πάνω από είκοσι λεπτά. Ο τσουξίμος, συσπαστικός πόνος είναι καλύτερος, και παρά όλα τα βάσανα των τελευταίων εβδομάδων, δεν φαίνομαι σαν να έχω αρρωστήσει· το χρώμα είναι καλό και παίρνω βάρος.

Ο όγκος στο μαστό μαλακώνει κάπως και μειώνεται σε μέγεθος.

Η θεραπεία με ακτίνες X ήταν πάντα η ελαφρύτερη δυνατή, και δεν έβαψε ούτε μία φορά το δέρμα κόκκινο, αν και το έκανε πολύ καστανό. Την έπαιρνα στην αρχή μόνο μία φορά την εβδομάδα· επειδή η επίδραση ήταν τόσο καλή, την εφάρμοζα κάθε τρίτη ή τέταρτη ημέρα.

Ο πρώτος πόνος που είχα ήταν μια ελαφριά δυσκαμψία του αυχένα στην αριστερή πλευρά. Τον Μάρτιο γινόταν αισθητή μόνο όταν στριφογύριζα στο κρεβάτι τη νύχτα· αυξήθηκε ελαφρά και σταδιακά μέχρι την 1η Νοεμβρίου· αν και είχα έναν έντονο παροξυσμό πόνου στη δεξιά πλευρά του αυχένα τον Μάιο, που ανακουφίστηκε από θερμές εφαρμογές, οι οποίες ακόμα δίνουν καμιά φορά κάποια ανακούφιση. Το κάθισμα στον καυτό ήλιο που λάμπει στον αυχένα μου δίνει κάποια ανακούφιση. Έχω υποφέρει έντονα τελευταία από εξάψεις θερμότητας, παρόμοιες με εκείνες που είχα κατά την εμμηνόπαυση· καλύτερα τα απογεύματα και τα βράδια.

Το πίσω μέρος του κεφαλιού καμιά φορά φαίνεται τελείως καλά· την επόμενη στιγμή δεν ανέχομαι την παραμικρή επαφή ούτε μπορώ να σηκώσω το κεφάλι μου από το μαξιλάρι χωρίς μεγάλο πόνο και στις δύο πλευρές στους μύες του αυχένα. αριστερά

Ένα μαγνητικό ρίγος στο δεξί χέρι που εκτείνεται στον πήχη, αμέσως.

Κανένα ιδιαίτερο σύμπτωμα την επόμενη ημέρα.

Το επόμενο πρωί ξύπνησε νωρίτερα από το συνηθισμένο από θαμνό πόνο στην αριστερή πλευρά του ινίου, και αμέσως στην αριστερή ιερολαγόνια περιοχή, έπειτα στην οπίσθια όψη του αριστερού μηρού και της γαστροκνημίας, ένας θαμνός πόνος.

Αυτοί οι πόνοι εκτείνονται από πάνω προς τα κάτω, όχι έντονοι, διαρκούν δεκαπέντε λεπτά.

Το απόγευμα ξαφνικά ένας αιχμηρός πόνος στην αριστερή πλευρά του ινίου σε μικρή περιοχή. Αυτό συνέβη δύο ή τρεις φορές σε διαστήματα κάποιων ωρών χωρίς κανονικότητα.

Μετά από αυτό, στη διάρκεια δύο-τριών ημερών, μια διαταραχή που είχε ξαναπάθει, μια καταρροϊκή κατάσταση φλεγμονής του ορθού με έκκριση βλέννας, ελαφρά αιματηρή, μετά από κένωση των εντέρων.

Οι κάλοι στις πατούσες πιο ευαίσθητοι από πριν, αποτελούμενοι από πάχυνση της επιδερμίδας, και καμιά φορά μια μικρή κατάθλιψη σε μέγεθος κεφαλής καρφίτσας που δεν απολεπίζεται.

2. Δρ Miss Alice B. C., μετά από μία δόση ακτίνων X 6 εκατ.

Ένα συναίσθημα στο εξωτερικό οφθαλμικό περιθώριο σαν να μπορούσε να είναι πόνος, αμέσως.

Βούισμα στο δεξί αυτί με πίεση που εκτείνεται στους κροτάφους.

Βαρύτητα των βλεφάρων.

Ξύπνησε με κεφαλαλγία το επόμενο πρωί, που συνεχιζόταν σε διαστήματα όλη την ημέρα.

Μια πίεση κατά μήκος του μετώπου, με ένα δυσάρεστο γενικό συναίσθημα σαν να πρόκειται να αρρωστήσει.

Υπνηλία με κεφαλαλγία.

Αιματηρή βλέννα από τη μύτη.

Καμία όρεξη για τίποτα, μόνο γλυκό γλυκάκι ή κέικ πιο ανεκτά.

Αποστροφή στο κρέας.

Βαρύτητα και πληρότητα στην κάτω κοιλία μετά από μικρή ποσότητα φαγητού.

Ανήσυχο συναίσθημα στην κάτω κοιλία σε διαστήματα σαν ζύμωμα, σαν να θα ακολουθούσε διάρροια.

Το μεγαλύτερο πόσο μετά το μεσημεριανό και το βραδινό γεύμα. Η κοιλία διατεταμένη με συναίσθημα πληρότητας.

(Η Pulsatilla, που πριν από ένα χρόνο βοήθησε για μήνες μια σειρά συμπτωμάτων, είχε μόνο πολύ ελαφριά επίδραση.)

Σφιγκτικό ρόγχωμα στην περιοχή της σκωληκοειδούς απόφυσης σαν να άρχιζε φλεγμονή.

Συναίσθημα στη δεξιά κάτω κοιλία σαν να σχηματίζονταν φυσαλίδες που ήθελαν να σκάσουν (ανακουφίστηκε από Taraxacum για είκοσι τέσσερις ώρες).

Φουσκώματα με αναποτελεσματική επιθυμία για κένωση.

Επτά ημέρες μετά τη λήψη του φαρμάκου σηκώθηκε από το κρεβάτι στις 4 π.μ. με επιθυμία για κένωση, και ακολούθησε πλήρης κένωση τεράστιας ποσότητας, έπειτα ναυτία και έμετος, άφθονη εφίδρωση.

Κολικός πόνος στη δεξιά κάτω κοιλία, καμιά φορά εκτεινόμενος πίσω από το ισχίο, και κατακράτηση ούρων.

Τένεςμος της κύστης που συνεχιζόταν για δώδεκα ώρες μέχρι τις 4 μ.μ., όταν τα ούρα ήρθαν πιο ελεύθερα.

Ο έμετος σταμάτησε αν και οι κολικοί πόνοι παρέμειναν για δώδεκα ημέρες.

Η κίνηση επιδείνωνε τους πόνους ειδικά στη δεξιά πλευρά της κοιλιάς, που φαινόταν να προσκολλάται στα τοιχώματα, με συναίσθημα σαν να ξεσπαράζεται. Έπρεπε να κρατά μεγάλο μαξιλάρι-πετσέτα μεταξύ κοιλιάς και μηρού για να στηρίζει την κοιλία και να αποτρέπει τον βασανιστικό πόνο.

Δεν έφαγε τίποτα για τρεις ημέρες.

Δίψα για κρύα ροφήματα, αν και τίποτα δεν έχει καλή γεύση. Γλώσσα παχιά επιβεβημένη.

Αναπνοή δύσοσμη.

Μόνο σύντομα διαλείμματα ύπνου κατά αυτές τις δώδεκα ημέρες, πάντα ακολουθούμενα από τρομερή ψυχική κατάθλιψη, δεν ήθελε να απαντά σε ερωτήσεις, δεν ήθελε να βλέπει κανέναν ούτε να μιλά σε κανέναν, μισανθρωπία.

Ρίγη μόλις άρχιζε να αποκοιμιέται, που ανέβαιναν στην πλάτη, εμποδίζοντας τον ύπνο.

Όνειρα οδυνηρής φύσης.

Επανεμφάνιση ενός ονείρου που την ταλαιπωρούσε πολλά χρόνια πριν.

Αυτό το όνειρο είχε επαναληφθεί σε μεγάλα διαστήματα πριν από είκοσι χρόνια. Τώρα ερχόταν κάθε νύχτα για πέντε φορές.

Επτά ημέρες από την αρχή της κρίσης είχε επανεμφάνιση νεφρικού κολικού με έμετο, συνεχή ναυτία, κρύο ιδρώτα και κατακράτηση ούρων στην αριστερή πλευρά. Ένας σφιγκτικός πόνος από το νεφρό στην κύστη που δεν χαλάριζε ποτέ για τέσσερις ώρες, προκαλώντας την άγρια εκδήλωση αγωνίας, γκρίζο πρόσωπο, μπλε κύκλους γύρω από βυθισμένα μάτια, βίαια τρέμουλο, τρομερή ανησυχία, κρύο ιδρώτα, ούρα κατακρατημένα στον ουρητήρα, δίνοντας μια τελεία εικόνα του Tabacum που επίσης ανακούφισε τα συμπτώματα.

Μόλις χαλάρωσαν οι πόνοι στον ουρητήρα, τα ούρα φάνηκαν να γεμίζουν την κύστη και έπειτα πέρασαν χωρίς πόνο. Έμεινε κάποιος σπασμός και ανακουφίστηκε από Cantharis σε πέντε λεπτά. (Είχε κάτι παρόμοιο πριν, πριν από περίπου ένα χρόνο, καθόλου τόσο έντονο, ένα απλό στραγγουρία.)

Κιρσοί φλέβες στο εσωτερικό των γονάτων και των ποδιών, με πρήξιμο και ευαισθησία (επανήλθαν μετά από χρόνια).

Οι παλάμες, που ήταν τραχιές και λεπιασμένες και αιμορραγούσαν καμιά φορά, έγιναν τελείως λείες κατά την πρόβαρση. Θεραπευτική δράση. Μετά από αυτό τα χέρια επέστρεψαν στην προηγούμενη κατάσταση ενώ η γενική υγεία βελτιώθηκε.

Καταπόνηση για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα.

Κατά τη συνεχή δράση των ακτίνων X υπέφερε τόσο που για κάποιο διάστημα έπρεπε να παίρνει φάρμακο για να την εξουδετερώσει. Όλα αυτά τα συμπτώματα έχουν εκτοπιστεί.

3. Dr. John B. C., 28 Μαρτίου 1897, πήρε ακτίνες X 6 εκατ., τρεις δόσεις σε γλοβούλια σε διαστήματα δέκα λεπτών.

Πέντε λεπτά μετά τη δεύτερη δόση.

Συναίσθημα πληρότητας του κεφαλιού με ελαφρύ συναίσθημα πληρότητας και στα δύο αυτιά, χειρότερα στο δεξί αυτί.

Συναίσθημα στο κεφάλι και τη μύτη σαν να επρόκειτο να αρχίσει οξεία ρινίτιδα, με κάποια ελαφριά επιθυμία για φτέρνισμα.

Αίσθημα πιεστικής πληρότητας που ξεκινά από την οπίσθια προεξοχή της κορυφής σε ευθεία γραμμή προς τη γέφυρα της μύτης, ακολουθούμενη από πληρότητα σε όλη την κορυφή που εκτείνεται στη γέφυρα της μύτης.

Μυρμήγκιασμα και στα δύο χέρια σαν ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος, ή σαν απονεκρωμένα.

Διαλείπων, ελαφρά καυστικός ρευματοειδής πόνος στην δεξιά καρπομετακάρπια άρθρωση που εκτείνεται από τον δείκτη προς τα πάνω στο εξωτερικό του πήχη.

Επιδείνωση της πληρότητας πάνω από την κορυφή, χειρότερα κατά το κέντρο προς τη μύτη, χειρότερα με το σκύψιμο.

Θαμνός πόνος στο δεξιό ισχιακό νεύρο, χειρότερα στο περπάτημα. <arg_value>Περιπλανώμενοι πόνοι στο θώρακα, σουβλής χαρακτήρα, χειρότερα στη δεξιά πλευρά.

Σουβλιές σε διάφορα μέρη του κεφαλιού και του προσώπου.

Ρευματικοί πόνοι σε διάφορα μέρη του κεφαλιού και του προσώπου.

Ρευματικοί πόνοι στο εμπρόσθιο του δεξιού μηρού.

29 Μαρτίου.

Κακή γεύση το πρωί.

Δυσάρεστη πληρότητα του κεφαλιού όλο το πρωί, με ήπια οξεία ρινίτιδα και απόφραξη των ρινικών στομίων.

Γενικό συναίσθημα κούρασης και αδιαθεσίας.

Τα συμπτώματα αυξάνονται σταδιακά σε ένταση μετά το μεσημέρι.

Κεφαλαλγία που εκτείνεται σταδιακά στο μετωπιαίο τόπο, χειρότερα στο κέντρο του μετώπου.

Αίσθημα πίεσης στο κέντρο του μετώπου.

Θαμνή κεφαλαλγία το πρωί, χειρότερα με το σκύψιμο και μετά το σηκώσιμο. Τα συμπτώματα όλα διαλείποντα στον χαρακτήρα, όλα έχουν επανέλθει.

Συναίσθημα ατμού sulphur στη μύτη, με πολύ φτέρνισμα.

Θαμνός πόνος κατά μήκος της κορυφής του κεφαλιού, στεφανιαία ραφή, στο φύσημα της μύτης και μετά από αυτό.

Πόνος στη ραχιαία περιοχή.

Συναίσθημα ατμού Sulphur στο λαιμό και τη μύτη.

Διαλείπων θόρυβος σαν βαθού σφυρίγματος ατμού στο αριστερό αυτί, και κουδούνισμα στο κεφάλι.

Οι νοητικές διεργασίες όχι καθαρές· γράφει λάθος λέξεις στις επιστολές.

Σουβλής πόνος στο δεξί άνω θώρακα, που διαπερνά προς το άνω μέρος της ωμοπλάτης.

Ρευματικός πόνος στον αριστερό καρπό και πήχη.

Δύσκαμπτος και δυσκίνητος στην πλάτη.

Θαμνός πόνος σε όλο το μήκος της σπονδυλικής στήλης.

Ρίγη ενώ απογυμνωνόταν σε ζεστό δωμάτιο.

30 Μαρτίου.

Συνεχής θαμνός πόνος στην κορυφή, χειρότερα στο ξύπνημα, επίσης χειρότερα με βήχα, φτέρνισμα, κίνηση ή χαμηλό κεφάλι.

Ρευματικό τσίμπημα στις δύο τελευταίες φαλαγγικές αρθρώσεις του δείκτη και του μεσαίου δακτύλου για λίγο χρόνο το πρωί.

Όρεξη μειωμένη.

Μύτη απόφραγμένη, χειρότερα στην αριστερή πλευρά.

Ο λαιμός επώδυνος στην κατάποση.

Αίσθημα επώδυνης μάζας γύρω από την αριστερή αμυγδαλή, χειρότερα στην κατάποση.

Πολύ ζωντανά άσεμνα όνειρα που επαναλαμβάνονται νύχτα με τη νύχτα.

Όνειρα διενέξεων, απασχολημένα όνειρα.

Ο ύπνος όχι αναζωογονητικός, αν και φαινομενικά ονειρευόταν όλη τη νύχτα.

Παρατήρηση του Προβαρστή.

Αυτό το φάρμακο ανασταίνει παλιές διαταραχές που ήταν για καιρό λανθάνουσες, και φάρμακα που βοηθούσαν παλιά έχουν λίγη, αν όχι καμία, επίδραση κατά της ανανεωμένης δυσκολίας. Σε πέντε προβαρστές φέρθηκαν στο φως παλιά συμπτώματα. Σε κάποιες περιπτώσεις τα συμπτώματα απουσίαζαν ένα χρόνο, κάποια έξι, δώδεκα ή ακόμα τριάντα χρόνια.

24 Μαΐου.

Καμία όρεξη για πρωινό (ένα παλιό σύμπτωμα απόν για χρόνια).

Επανεμφάνιση μιας παλιάς ελαφριάς εξανθηματικής φλύκταινας στην αριστερή πλευρά του μετώπου.

Επίμονη εξάντληση και ατονία· αυτή η τελευταία ήταν έντονη και δεν αποδιδόταν στην άνοιξη.

Επιστροφή ελαφριού εξανθήματος στο εξωτερικό των κάτω ποδιών, που καίει όταν ξύνεται, χειρότερα μετά το ξύσιμο (απών για μήνες).

Παρατήρηση του Προβαρστή.

Φαίνεται ότι αυτό το φάρμακο θα μπορούσε να χρησιμοποιηθεί με τρεις τρόπους: αριστερά 1. Για να αναδείξει παλιές διαταραχές ή εκείνες που θα μπορούσαν να γίνουν λανθάνουσες από οποιαδήποτε αιτία συμπεριλαμβανομένης της καταστολής. 2. Για να αναδείξει οξεία συμπτώματα ήδη παρόντα έναντι των δικών του παθογενετικών φαινομένων. 3. Ως αντιψωρικό κάπως σαν το Sulphur.

4. Δρ Miss C., 27 Μαρτίου, 9 μ.μ., μία δόση ακτίνων X 6 εκατ.

Ένα ανέκφραστο συναίσθημα στον οισοφάγο, αμέσως.

Πόνος στη δεξιά πλευρά του κεφαλιού πάνω από τον κρόταφο. Σφιχτοπαλμός κατά τη διάρκεια της βραδιάς, που προκαλεί βήχα.

Οι σφύξεις πολύ διάχυτες και βίαιες, προκαλώντας μια επιφώνημα που καταπνίγηκε, συνοδευόμενες από επιθυμία για περπάτημα σε ανοιχτό αέρα, και τελείως ανακουφισμένες από το ξάπλωμα.

Πριν αποκοιμηθεί, θαμνός πόνος στην άνω γνάθο στη δεξιά πλευρά.

Ξύσιμο-πόνος στον πλάγιο κοπτήρα, επιδεινούμενος από θορύβους και από το τράνταγμα των αυτοκινήτων.

28 Μαρτίου. Μετά το ξύπνημα τα ξημερώματα το επόμενο πρωί, συναίσθημα στη ραχιαία περιοχή της σπονδυλικής στήλης, σαν η κυρτότητά της να ήταν πρόσθια και να είχε τραβηχτεί μακριά προς τα εμπρός, που κράτησε μόνο ένα λεπτό, και ακολουθήθηκε από ένα πολύ άβολο συναίσθημα σε εκείνη την περιοχή, που κράτησε πολύ περισσότερο.

Το πρωί μετά το σηκώσιμο και πριν το φαγητό, ένας βήχας που προκλήθηκε από ερεθισμό στον λάρυγγα, συνοδευόμενος από πόνο στη δεξιά πλευρά ακριβώς πάνω από την λαγόνια ακμή· το φαγητό ανακούφισε τον βήχα, αλλά η πλευρά νιώθει μωλωπισμένη όταν λυγίζει, ή τραντάζεται, ή πιέζεται.

Κόκκινο, λείο εξάνθημα στη δεξιά πλευρά του προσώπου.

Επώδυνος πόνος στον χόνδρο του αριστερού αυτιού, που γίνεται αισθητός όταν πιέζεται, αργότερα στο δεξί αυτί.

29 Μαρτίου.

Πόνος που τρυπά προς τα πάνω στην περιοχή της αριστερής ωοθήκης, όταν κάθεται, περπατά ή στέκεται.

31 Μαρτίου.

Μετά το φαγητό το μεσημέρι, ένα συναίσθημα μακριού και στενού ξένου σώματος καρφωμένου στον φάρυγγα, που δεν μετακινείται με την κατάποση, επιδεινούμενο με την κατάποση.

Αφού αυτό πέρασε, ο φάρυγγας ένιωσε κενός και επώδυνος στην κατάποση.

Αιχμηρός πόνος στην κορυφή της καρδιάς, καλύτερα ξαπλώνοντας στην αριστερή πλευρά.

Είχε πάντα θερμότητα και πρήξιμο των ποδιών την άνοιξη, που είναι τώρα καλύτερα. Θεραπευτική δράση.

5. Dr. St. C., μετά από μία δόση ακτίνων X 6 εκατ.

Απειλητική κεφαλαλγία, πίεση μέσα από τους κροτάφους, αμέσως.

Θαμνός πόνος στον εκτείνα μυ του πήχη, που ανεβαίνει στον ώμο.

Drawing, aching discomfort in right thigh through hip and knee down through toes, immediately.

Sciatic pain in right hip.

Palpitation of heart.

In less than a week began to cough, with tearing sensation in bronchi, hoarseness, palpitation.

Chilliness on moving or from draft.

Eyeballs sore.

Lame and sore all over.

Wave-like sensation as if would break out in perspiration.

Stools green though normal in consistency.

Teeth covered with a gray-green deposit. Menses dark green one day.

Second day of menses violent sick headache, pulsating pressure outward in forehead as if bursting, vomiting, pain relieved by hot water application.

Phlegm of greenish hue causing cough in crawling up.

Drawing in and heaviness across brow approaching nose and resting there.

Ears more clear from ringing and from dullness of hearing than for many years.

Healing action.

Rheumatic pains in right wrist and arm.

Headache across brow and a different pain in temples.

Eyelids feel sleepy and heavy.

Tingling like pins and needles in left hand.

A feeling as if some one were drawing icy hands over the thigh downward aggravatingly slow. (Return of an old symptom twelve years ago after a nervous shock which did not return for five years.)

Three years ago proved Uranium nitrate.

Up to that time had never missed a regular menstruation, but it has been irregular ever since.

Had not menstruated for six months till after taking X-ray, when it was almost prostrating.

Three or four days previously felt from waist down as if bursting and wanting to hold herself up, with distention and weight in abdomen, relieved by flow, violent, profuse, without pain. Flow lasting seven days.

Mental condition upset, felt as if she would like to kill somebody.

Heavy pressure on vertex as from a hand (old symptom absent a year).

Next day mental irritability.

Trembling all over.

Body tired and exhausted.

Pain on right side of head passing around base of brain to left ear, followed by paralytic numbness.

May 1st. Drowsy at night when sitting up.

Drowsiness leaves the instant he lies down, so he cannot sleep.

Reappearance of many symptoms which occurred during an attack of inflammatory rheumatism, twenty-five years ago.

Painful bulging of left chest over the cardiac region.

Sensation in right eye as though bulging.

Right eye sore to touch.

On closing eye in dark sees old women's and old men's ugly faces.

A paralytic sensation extending from spine down left leg.

Twitching internally in various parts of body.

All symptoms worse towards evening and at night.

On straining at stool, a sore sensation in nates.

Rheumatic-like fever in trunk, pain steady and dull going steadily from trunk to legs and finally to heels, worse left knee, worse stepping on heel, on underside.

Can't hold things in left hand, being powerless or clumsy.

Third day after taking.

Slight nose-bleed on left side at 4 :30 P. M.

Sensation of swooning at times during day and night, feeling like dying.

Rheumatic pains in limbs (an old symptom of rheumatism resurrected even to an old soreness in heels).

Wind around heart, flatus and flatulence as though diarrhea would commence.

Clearing up of mental function after sharp stabbing pain in left temple staggering him, the heart feeling the impulse immediately.

Misanthropy during renal colic, did not want to answer questions, did not want to see anybody or to talk to anybody, being completely prostrated.

Head (X-Ray)

A feeling at right external orbital margin as if it might be an ache, immediately (the first symptom observed).

A pressing across forehead with a miserable feeling generally as though going to be sick.

Aching on top of head across along coronal suture on blowing nose and after it.

Aggravation of fullness over vertex, worse along the centre to nose and when stooping over.

Awoke with headache next morning, continuing at intervals through whole day.

Back of head at times seems perfectly well, next moment cannot bear slightest touch or lift my head from the pillow without great pain on both sides and in muscles of neck.

Cannot bear slightest touch, though hard pressure relieves for an instant ; by walking the floor.

Constant ache in vertex, worse on awaking, also on coughing, sneezing, or head low.

Cords feel too short.

Disagreeable fullness of head all morning, with bland coryza and stoppage of nostrils.

Drawing in and across the brow approaching nose and resting there, immediately.

Dull headache in morning, worse when stooping and after rising.

Feeling in head and nose as if coryza would set in, with slight desire to sneeze.

Pains steady, but at times appear in sharp "cricks," then in streaks down the course of the nerves < by turning the head or neck ; moving the head on pillow at night is agony ; keeping perfectly quiet ; again by gentle motion.

Sensation of fullness of head with slight full feeling in ears, worse in right ear.

Sense of pressive fullness starting from posterior prominence of vertex in a central straight line to bridge of nose, followed by fullness in entire vertex extending to bridge of nose.

Sense of pressure in centre of forehead.

Sharp stabbing in left temple, followed by clearing up mental function, the heart immediately feeling the impulse.

Sickening grating between the bones of the cervical spine on turning the head.

Sleepy with headache.

Sticking pains in different parts of head and face.

Suddenly sharp ache in left occiput on small area, recurring two or three times at intervals of some hours, without regularity.

Threatening headache, pressure through temples.

Unable to lift head from pillow without taking hands, and then by a slow circular motion.

Violent sick-headache second day of menses, pulsating pressure outward in forehead as if bursting, vomiting, pain relieved by hot water applications.

Neck (X-Ray)

Aching pains in left side of neck.

Clutching, shooting, aching pains begin behind left ear and in muscles of left side of neck on sitting up over twenty minutes ; by lying on left side.

Pain on both sides and in muscles of neck when lifting head from pillow.

Pain relieved on keeping perfectly quiet ; sometimes by gentle motion.

Pains more severe behind the ears-the mastoid process.

Stiffness on left side of neck, turning in bed.

Stiffness on right side of neck, with intense pain at night ; occurs in paroxysms during the day > somewhat by hot applications.

Stinging contracting pain.

Sudden "cricks" attack first one side of neck, then the other, < on getting cold ; turning the head nearly produces convulsions.

Eyes (X-Ray)

Bearing down of eyelids.

Congestion of eyes in forenoon, worse on rising.

Eyeballs sore.

Eyelids heavy and sleepy.

On closing eyes in dark sees old men's and women's ugly faces.

Right eye sore to touch.

Sensation in right eye as if bulging.

Ears (X-Ray)

Buzzing in right ear with pressure extending to temples.

Ears snore clear from ringing and dullness of hearing than for many years, an improvement lasting up to this day.

Fullness in ears, more right, and fullness in head.

Fullness in ears, worse in right ear, worse by inserting finger.

Healing action.

Intermittent noise as of deep steam-whistle in left ear, and ringing in head.

Pressing outward in ears.

Sore pain in cartilage of left ear when pressing it, later in right ear.

Nose (X-Ray)

Bloody mucus from the nose.

Congested sensation in head and nose as before coryza.

Flowing coryza with stoppage of nostrils and fullness in head, forenoon.

Nose stopped on left side.

On blowing nose and after it aching across top of head along coronal suture.

Sensation of hyperesthesia or nervous concentration in bridge of nose.

Sensation of sulphur-vapor in nose with much sneezing.

Sulphur-vapor sensation in throat and nose.

Face (X-Ray)

Dull pain in right upper jaw.

Paralytic feeling in right cheek, preceded by chills going down back.

Red, smooth eruption on right side of face.

Slight electric current sensation in left side of tongue and face, passing over and disappearing in right side of face.

Stinging pains in different parts of head and face.

Mouth (X-Ray)

Scraping pain in lateral incisor, aggravated by noises and jarring of cars.

Teeth covered with a gray-green deposit.

Tongue dry, rough, sore and scraped.

Tongue slightly coated.

Throat (X-Ray)

After eating at noon, sensation of a long and narrow foreign body lodged in pharynx, removed by swallowing, aggravated by swallowing. After this passed away, pharynx felt hollow and sore on deglutition.

Foul breath.

Indescribable sensation in esophagus, immediately.

Sense of painful lump about left tonsil, worse swallowing.

Sulphur-vapor sensation in nose and throat.

Throat painful on swallowing.

Appetite (X-Ray)

Appetite diminished.

Ate nothing for three days.

Aversion to meat.

Bad taste in forenoon.

Bitter taste.

Can eat plenty but does not enjoy it.

Desire for sweets.

More thirst than usual.

Most distress after midday and evening meal.

No appetite for anything except sweet pudding or cake.

No appetite for breakfast (old symptom absent for two years).

Nausea and vomiting with profuse sweat after immense stool at 4 A. M., seven days after taking.

Slightly sick at stomach.

Vomiting ceased, though colic pain remained in lower abdomen for twelve days.

Abdomen distended with full feeling. (Pulsatilla, which a year ago helped for months a train of symptoms, had only very slight effect.)

Colicky pains in right lower abdomen, sometimes extending behind the hip, and retained urine.

Drawing gnawing in region of appendix, as though inflammation were beginning.

Had to keep a large towel pad between abdomen and thigh to support abdomen and prevent the excruciating pain. Pain in right side just above crest of ilium, with an irritation in larynx causing cough in morning after rising, and before eating ; eating relieved cough, but the side felt bruised when bending, or jarring, or pressing it.

Heaviness and fullness in lower abdomen after eating small quantity.

Moving aggravates the colic pains, especially on right of abdomen, which seemed adhered to walls, feeling as if torn off.

Sensation in right lower abdomen, as though bubbles were forming and wanting to burst (relieved by Taraxacum for twenty-four hours).

Uneasy feeling in lower abdomen at intervals like fomentation, as though diarrhea would follow.

Wind around heart, flatus and flatulence as though diarrhea would commence.

Stool (X-Ray)

Catarrhal inflammation of rectum, with discharge of mucus slightly bloody after action of bowels, in course of two or three days (a trouble he had once before).

Ineffectual urging to stool, with flatulence.

On straining at stool a sore sensation in nates.

Stools green, though normal in consistency.

Urine (X-Ray)

A clutching pain from left kidney to bladder that never relaxed for two hours, causing the wildest demonstration of agony, ghastly face, blue rings around sunken eyes, cold sweat with trembling, frightful restlessness, urine retained in ureter (giving a perfect picture of Tabacum which relieved at once).

As soon as the pain in ureter relaxed after it, urine was filling up the bladder and then passed without pain.

Frequent urination, worse after getting into bed.

Great prostration followed this attack,

Pressure as from congestion about kidneys.

Retained urine, vesical tenesmus after enormous evacuation, vomiting for twelve hours to 4 P. M.

Seven days from beginning of attack return of renal colic with vomiting, continuous nausea and retention of urine on left side.

Some spasm remained and was relieved by Cantharis in five minutes. (She had something of a like trouble a year ago, but not so severe as this, only a strangury.)

Male Sexual Organs (X-Ray)

Sexual desire lost in man.

Testes relaxed, impotent feeling.

Unnatural or disgusting, lewd dreams on several nights, or several times in one night.

Female Sexual Organs (X-Ray)

After cessation of menstruation for six months it reappeared again, violent, profuse, without pain but prostrating, the flow lasting several days.

Flushes of heat ; better afternoons and evenings.

Menses dark green one day.

Mental condition upset, she would like to kill somebody (three years ago she proved Uranium nitrate. Up to that time had never missed a regular menstruation, but irregular ever since).

Pain darting upward in region of left ovary when sitting, walking or standing.

Second day of menses a violent sick headache, pulsating pressure outward in forehead as if bursting, vomiting (pain relieved by hot water application).

Three or four days before menstruation, felt from waist down as if bursting with distention and weight in abdomen, and wanted to hold herself up, relieved by the flow.

Air Passages (X-Ray)

Cough caused by palpitation during evening.

Grayish expectoration.

In less than a week a cough with tearing sensation in bronchi, hoarseness, palpitation.

In morning after rising and before eating, a cough caused by irritation in larynx, accompanied a pain in right side just above the crest of ilium, eating relieved cough, but side felt bruised when bending, jarring or pressing it.

Much expectoration of tough mucus as large as fingers' ends, whitish like gelatine, raised easily.

On rising in morning expectoration of considerable white mucus.

Phlegm of greenish hue causing cough in crawling up.

Raising of jelly-like mucus, worse in forenoon, tenacious and tough.

In two cases of gonorrhea, obstinate in character, deficient in symptoms, on which to make an accurate prescription, due, probably, to the deep sycotic diathesis, the X-ray not only developed all the acute symptoms of original attack but revealed the remedy (Merc. cor.) which promptly and permanently cured the disease and an old catarrhal deafness as well.

In two other cases, which had resisted the best of treatment for months, the remedy developed numerous sycotic excrescences on glans and the symptoms calling for the similimum were sharply indicated, and it cured permanently.

The physical and mental incubus, which for months had made one patient's life a burden, was immediately removed on the reappearance of the condylomata, which had followed suppression by injections and were subsequently disbursed by cauterization.

Chest (X-Ray)

Contraction of chest at night relieved by belching.

Left chest bulged out like enlargement of heart (old symptom of inflammatory rheumatism twenty-five years ago).

Sensation in left side as if fingers pressed costal cartilages in, followed by sensation as if something broke inside, with temporary relief.

Sensation of drops of water trickling down on inside of chest.

Sense of contraction across middle chest.

Stitching pain in right upper chest going through to upper part of scapula.

Wandering sticking pains in chest, worse on right side.

Heart (X-Ray)

Dull and constant soreness around heart, and worse in legs and arms,

Heart's sounds keep him awake while lying on left side.

Painful bulging of left chest over cardiac region (old symptom of inflammatory rheumatism twenty-five years ago).

Palpitation during evening causing cough.

Palpitation with a cough with tearing sensation in bronchi and hoarseness.

Pulsations greatly diffused and violent, provoking an exclamation, which was suppressed, accompanied with a desire to walk in open air, and entirely relieved by lying down.

Sharp pain at apex of heart, better by lying on left side.

Wind around heart ; flatus and flatulence as though diarrhea would begin.

Back (X-Ray)

A paralytic sensation extending from spine down left leg.

Aching whole length of spine.

After waking at daybreak next morning, sensations in dorsal region of spine as if its convexity were interior and drawn far forward, lasting but a minute, and followed by a very uncomfortable feeling in that region, lasting a much longer time.

Awakened earlier than usual by dull aching in left occiput, and immediately in left sacro-iliac region, then posterior thigh and calf for fifteen minutes.

Lame and stiff in back.

Pain in dorsal region.

Pressure in small of back as from congestion about kidney.

Rheumatic-like fever in trunk, steady dull pain going steadily from trunk to legs, and finally to heels, worse in left knee, worse stepping on heel, on underside of heel (old symptom of inflammatory rheumatism twenty-five years ago).

Sensation as if a cool drop of sweat going down left side of spine.

Sore feeling across loins as after a heavy cold.

Soreness in small of back.

Upper Extremities (X-Ray)

Aching extensor muscles of right forearm going up to shoulder.

Can't hold things in left hand, powerless or clumsy.

Grating heard in shoulder joints, as well as nearly all other joints of the body.

Healing action. (Afterward they went back to former state when general health improved.)

Intermittent, slightly burning, rheumatic-like pain in right carpo-metacarpal articulation, extending from index finger up outside of right forearm.

Magnetic thrill in right hand, extending up forearm.

Palms of hands, which were rough and scaly and bleeding at times, became smooth and natural during the proving.

Rheumatic pain in left wrist and forearm.

Rheumatic pain in right wrist and arm.

Rheumatic twinge in last two phalangeal articulations of index and middle fingers for a short time in forenoon.

Tingling in both arms as of electric current, or as if asleep.

Tingling in right hand.

Tingling like pins and needles in left hand.

Lower Extremities (X-Ray)

Drawing aching discomfort in right thigh through hip and knees down through toes, immediately.

Dull aching posterior aspect of thigh and calf in morning, from above downward.

Feeling as if somebody were drawing icy hands over thigh downward, aggravatingly slow. (This occurred first twelve years ago after a nervous shock and did not return for five years.)

Had always heat and swelling of feet in spring, which is better now, although it is spring. Healing action.

Lower part of both legs asleep, tingling, as if from electric battery more in right, immediately.

On inside of left knee sensation in different spots painful as if hairs were being pulled, worse walking, better rubbing or scratching.

Pain in right sciatic nerve on walking.

Rheumatic pains in front of right thigh.

Rheumatic pains in limbs.

Rheumatic-like fever in trunk, steady dull pain going steadily down to legs and finally to heels, worse in left knee, worse stepping on heel, on underside of heel (old symptoms of inflammatory rheumatism twenty-five years ago).

Sciatic pain in right hip.

Varicose veins inside of knees and legs, with swelling and soreness (returned after years).

Fever (X-Ray)

Chill going down back, followed by paralytic feeling in right cheek.

Chilliness on moving or from draft.

Chills as soon as beginning to sleep, running up back, preventing sleep.

Chilly whilst undressing in warm room.

Profuse perspiration on getting into bed, keeping him awake.

Spells of feverishness, perspiration and weakness.

Wave-like sensation as if it would break out in perspiration.

Sleep (X-Ray)

(Symptoms better after Bell. or Acon. for a short time ; better from ale, which puts him to sleep.)

All symptoms worse in bed.

As soon as she begins to sleep, chills running up back preventing sleep.

Awaking with a headache lasting all day.

Dreams of distressing nature.

Dreams of strife, busy dreams.

Drowsiness leaves the instant when lying down, so cannot sleep.

Drowsy all night while sitting up.

Frequent urination, worse after getting in bed.

Goes to sleep on right side, but wakes on left side.

Kept awake by heart's sound while lying on left side.

Only snatches of sleep during these twelve days, always followed by mental depression, during suffering from nephralgia.

Profuse perspiration on getting into bed, keeping him awake.

Recurrence of a dream which used to trouble her many years ago. (This dream was repeated at wide intervals over twenty years ago ; now it came every night for five times.)

Sleep not unrefreshing, though apparently dreaming all night.

Sleeplessness constant and troublesome (relieved permanently by a bottle of Pabst Malt Extract).

Sleepy during day.

Sleepy with headache.

Sleepy, but unable to sleep for some hours after retiring.

Symptoms worse when getting into bed, worse after sunset.

Unnatural lewd and disgusting dreams, occurring on several nights and several times in one night.

Very vivid lewd dreams, repeated night after night.

Waking frequently at night from no apparent cause.

General Symptoms (X-Ray)

General tired and sick feeling.

Lame and sore all over.

Persistent exhaustion and languor, not attributable to spring.

Trembling all over.

Skin (X-Ray)

Reappearance of an old, slight, pimply eruption on left side of forehead.

Return of a slight eruption on outside of lower legs, burning when scratched, worse after scratching.

The skin was red, rough and inflamed, like raw meat, for four inches down, with small blisters of different size extending downward. The large blister discharged gradually, and a scab formed, which, under cessation of pain, fell off, so that by the end of September the skin was as sound as before.

This reminds me of a similar experience observed from repeated action of the X-rays upon the skin, resulting in a denudation of the tibia for the space of about six inches, as far as the leg was exposed to the rays, because it would not heal from an ulcer consequent upon an injury.

"On the red erythematous surface elevations begin to appear, of different sizes and which may be acuminate or papular. In the early stage they are barely visible, and resemble ordinary congestion papules.

If, however, their surface is scratched with a needle, a yellow serous slightly opaque fluid exudes and the papule disappears. These elevations, though of small size, are in reality vesicles.

They occur in groups or disseminated over the surface, and ultimately develop into vesico-bulle, or vesico-pustules which have the appearance of an ordinary eruption."

" In a weeping eczema the exudation disappears after one to four exposures, and does not return."

" In pruriginous eczema the itching often ceases after a single application."

"On dry eczema the effect of the rays is most marked." A single application is frequently sufficient. " It is in the more obstinate, chronic, and recurring types that they are the most useful."

To quote now from Dr. Hall-Edwards :

" For a description of the pain and suffering, hyperesthesia and paresthesia, no language, sacred or profane, is adequate. The sting of the honey bee or the passage of a renal calculus is painful enough, but they are comparative pleasure ; being paroxysmal, they have a time limitation.

Extreme tenderness to the slightest touch, hot and cold waves and flashes, warmth, tingling, pricking, throbbing, stinging, crawling, boring, and horning sensations, as if the parts were on fire and contained bugs and other living things ; feelings as if the anatomical structures were being removed from one position to another ; all of these sensations are proportionate to the depth of the inflammatory process."

General Symptoms (X-Ray)

Body tired and exhausted.

For many years have removed the sensitiveness of nervous peons in electric storms with electricity cm.

General tired and sick feeling.

Generally worse in open air..

Lame and sore all over.

Mental and physical aggravation markedly pronounced toward evening.

Muscles feel soft objectively.

Nervous powerlessness in limbs.

Persistent exhaustion and languor, not attributable to spring.

Prostrated for a long time.

Sensation of swooning at times during day and night, feeling like dying.

Symptoms gradually increasing in severity after noon.

Symptoms intermittent in character, the first observed symptoms have all returned at irregular intervals.

Trembling all over.

Twitching internally in various parts.

A patient for three years has gout, which is the summing up of a history of suppressed chills. He got X-ray 30th cent., which seems to have helped him somewhat.

Swelling of legs and knees disappeared, after being present for weeks.

Some of the pains were better.

After that decided glow of heat all over body with some itching.

Little rash on both legs, with decided pricking on both legs from knees to toes.

Pain in region of spleen for one hour which passed away in bed, during which time no twitching or jerking of muscles, could stretch out both legs comfortably.

Very good night's sleep.

March 30th, 7 A. M., slight perspiration on legs from knees to toes.

March 31st, took the remaining powder of same potency.

Some itching on left shoulder blade and arm from shoulder to elbow, with considerable increase of pain in elbows and hands, and sensation of heat all over body, but no fever.

Stiffness of back and neck, necessitating moving of whole body to turn his head.

Slight rash on left leg above knee.

Some itching of arms and chest in bed, especially when beginning to get warm.

Could walk a little better the first two days after taking medicine.

More thirst than usual.

Had no chill since 21st, until today, when he had a slight chill from 2 to 4 P. M. ; no fever thirst or sweat.

Appetite and bowels extremely good.

Some itching or prickling pains above knees.

The swelling from legs and feet has gone down immensely, though pain does not abate.

"Με την πρώτη ματιά μπορεί να φαίνεται αντιφατικό το ίδιο μέσο να προκαλεί, στη μία περίπτωση, την πτώση των τριχών και, στην άλλη, να ευνοεί την ανάπτυξή τους.
