Asparagus. Liliacecp..

Introduced and proved in 1840 by Buchner, who proved the sprouts; later others made provings. Jeanes proved the root. The strongest effect must be obtained from the berries, and still more from the seed. Many- symptoms may be added by practitioners if they meet with cases in which asparagus disagrees.

^ Mind. Cheerfulness ; serenity of mind ; the 5th day. A peculiar anxiety, with palpitation and ill humor. Fretful and peevish, disturbed by trifles ; constant anxiety and apprehension.

"^ Sensorium. Vertigo : slight in the afternoon ; in the forehead ; with staggering. Confusion of the head. Dullness of the head. ' Inner Head.

Dizziness in forehead, afterwards aching in tem- ples, especially the left. Aching in forehead, with confusion. Pressing pains in both temples, worse from pressure. Heaviness, pressure in forehead, the pain presses towards the eyes. ^ Sight and Eyes.

Increased acuteness of vision. Stitches and tickling in the eyes. Aching of the brain near the eyes. Pains in the eyeballs.

Drawing pain over eyebrows all across.

^ Smell and Nose. I l Frequent sneezing ; after smelling the tincture.

Corjza, with slight dryness and swelling inside, then impeded entrance of air ; gets violent with frequent discharge of a thin white fluid from 1. nostril ; irritation to sneeze, and fre- quent sneezing.

Later with the catarrh a pressing pain from root of nose to fore- head; next day, at 9 a.m., dry coryza ; later running ; want of smell ; violent sneezing ; the 3d day discharge of mucus from the r. nostril. " Face. Increased heat of the face.

Burning of the cheeks.

■ Countenance pale, wax- like and hloated.

■ General expression of anxiety and distress. See 29.

^^ Teeth and Gums. Painless cavity ; exfoliation of a carious molar.

■ Relieved toothache.

*^ Taste, Tongue. Taste : sweetish, insipid ; coppery ; bitter- sweetish on the tongue. Smarting feeling on the tongue. ^^ Inner Mouth. Saliva increased ; sweetish, as if mixed with

blood; diminished; later more copious. '^ Palate and Throat. Almost constant hawking, with a rough feeling in the throat. Copious discharge of tenacious mucus from the throat.

■ Deglutition difficult. ^Hydrophobia.

■ Burning in the throat.

" Appetite, Thirst. Increased thirst.

Feeble appetite. * Eating and Drinking. After breakfast : cough remitted ; pain in chest. After eating : palpitation. See 29. Fullness and oppression after eating or drinking.

^^ Belching, Nausea and Vomiting. Belching of wind.

Nausea 5 a.m., on awaking; vomited the food taken the even- ing before, with bile and much mucus, followed by a bilious diarrhoea; after 15 minutes another attack of difficult vomit-

Retching bringing tears into the eyes, when attempting to cough.

Nausea after each exertion. ^'' Scrobiculum and Stomach. Pain in region of cardiac end of

stomach, extending thence to left shoulder. ^^ Abdomen, Loins and Groins. Sense of fullness in abdomen.

Griping in region of navel, which is painful when touched.

Drawing pains in both groins. ^^ Rectum and Stool. Discharge of much wind.

Insufficient stool in afternoon, notwithstanding a regular stool in morning.

Feces bilious after vomiting. See 16.

Bilious diarrhoea, with colic.

A peculiar urging, with difficult, hard fecal discharge ; haemor- rhoids bleed much more.

Burning and soreness at the anus. " Urinary Organs. • Nephritis.

Nephritic colic.

Urging to urinate ; evening 1st day.

Urging to urinate ; urine of a tolerably strong odor.

Frequent scanty discharge preceded by a sensation as if something was sticking in the urethra, with slight burning.

I I Frequent urination, with fine stinging in the meatus, followed by stitches out of the urethra.

I Urine scanty, straw-colored and offensive.

Cutting and burning in urethra.

Strangury.

Burning in urethra 6 A.M. ; 8th day,

After urination burning in the urethra, with sensation as if some was still passing.

■ Increased urine, beer-brown, without sediment. • Diabetes.

I When urinating, particularly when voiding the last drops, rheumatic, constricting pain in cardiac region, forcing him to cry out ; turns blue in the face, d Dropsy of chest.

Urine : straw-colored, becoming turbid and full of motes, which settle as a whit« flocculent sediment.

Urine of a peculiar odor.

Urine of unpleasant odor ; 2d day. — N.

Urging to urinate; urine strong smelling.

Urine smells like cats' urine.

Urine bloody.

The urine deposits a greasy sediment on the sides of the vessel.

Reddish deposit on the sides of the vessel.

iLithiasis.

I Gravel passing in small quantities with urination. "^"^ Male Sexual Organs. Sexual excitement.

Stitching on the r. side of the glans penis.

Swelling of the penis, with erection and urging to urinate. ^^ Female Sexual Organs. Promotes the flow of the menses.

The flow continued a day longer than usual.

25 Voice and Larynx. Continual hawking and hemming, with sensation of roughness in throat. Talks in a nasal voice during coryza. ^® Respiration. Difficulty of breathing when moving or going up stairs. At night he was obliged to sit up in bed to relieve his breathing.

■ Great oppression; breathing rapid, difficult, increased after being in bed some time.

Breathing: I rapid, labored, sighing ; I I difficult when moving or ascending ; difficult at night, must sit up in bed. ^"^ Cough. Hawking and inclination to cough ; mucus not readily loosened, paroxysms of cough, which brought it up.

Tickling and inclination to cough, but expectoration was diffi- cult.

Cough, with inclination to vomit.

Cough distressing, with fullness of the chest and copious mu- cous sputum.

Cough in paroxysms from mucus, which is not easily detached.

Cough remitted one hour after breakfast.

Less inclined to hawk and cough ; 5th day ; ■< rising from deep in the throat.

Spitting blood. ^^ Inner Chest and Lungs. Stitches, especially about the left scapula, when inspiring.

Pains relieved by throwing the chest forward and head back- ward.

iHydrothorax ; often with heart disease or gouty diathesis of old people.

I Unusual fullness of the chest.

Constriction of the chest ; tension, increased by a deep breath.

Chest feels as if hollow, with external heaviness.

Sudden darting through the right side of the chest.

Stitching pains in the region of chest.

^® Heart, Pulse and Circulation, Slight sensation of stitching in the region of the heart after eating.

■ Heart's throb visible, especially at night; ■very strong and

extended over an unnaturally large area ; throbbing carotids; murmurs. Palpitation : I I while sitting, the leaves of the book in his hands tremble ; I I with anxious restlessness, increased by motion or ascending; ■with oppression of the chest.

■ Heart's action weak ; pulse feeble. See 32.

I I Heart's stroke two-fold, irregular, quickened.

Pulse accelerated when sitting; ■slow, weak; ■irregular and

I Πόνος στην ακρωμιακή απόφυση της αριστερής ωμοπλάτης, κάτω από την κλείδα και κατά μήκος του αριστερού βραχίονα· σφυγμός ασθενής. ^^ Κάτω άκρα. Το δεξί πόδι και το δεξί πέλμα είναι τα πιο αδύναμα.

Κατά την αφύπνιση και το τέντωμα, κράμπες στο αριστερό γαστροκνημία, βελτ. από τρίψιμο.

Κατά το περπάτημα, πόνος σαν από εξάρθρωμα στον τράχηλο του δεξιού μηριαίου οστού. Βλ. 45.

Οι μύες στο μέσο του μηρού αισθάνονται μωλωπισμένοι, επιδ. κατά την ανάβαση, πόνος ευαίσθητος στην αφή.

Με το στήθος ριγμένο μπροστά και το κεφάλι πίσω : οι πόνοι βελτ.

Βήχας : λόξιγκας και δακρύρροια.

Κόπωση : ναυτία επιδ.

Κατά την ούρηση : πόνος στην καρδιακή περιοχή.

Κίνηση ή ανάβαση : δύσκολη αναπνοή· αύξηση των παλμών· πόνος στους μύες του μηρού.

Εισπνοή : σουβλιές γύρω από την αριστερή ωμοπλάτη.

Τέντωμα : κράμπα στο γαστροκνήμιο.

Περπάτημα : πόνος στον τράχηλο του δεξιού μηριαίου.

■ Η κίνηση επιδεινώνει τους περισσότερους πόνους.

Αναγκάζεται να ρίξει το στήθος μπροστά και το κεφάλι πίσω για να ανακουφιστεί από τους πόνους στη μέση και αλλού. '® Νεύρα. I Μεγάλη αδυναμία και απροθυμία για σωματική ή πνευματική κοπιαστική προσπάθεια.

Ύπνος ανήσυχος και διαταραγμένος από δύσπνοια. '^ Χρόνος. 5 π.μ. : ναυτία κατά την αφύπνιση.

6 π.μ. : κάψιμο στην ουρήθρα.

9 π.μ. : ξηρή ρινίτιδα.

Απόγευμα : ελαφρύς ίλιγγος· ανεπαρκή κόπρανα.

3 μ.μ. : λίγος πυρετός· αδύναμος και υπνηλός.

4 μ.μ. : πόνοι στη μέση. Βράδυ : ώθηση για ούρηση.

■ Κατακράτηση ιδρώτα.

*^ Τοποθεσία και Κατεύθυνση. Δεξιά : βλέννα από το ρουθούνι· σουβλιές στην πλευρά της βαλάνης του πέους· διαπεραστικοί πόνοι στην πλευρά του θώρακα· πόνοι στη μασχάλη· πόδι και πέλμα αδύναμα· πόνος στον τράχηλο του μηριαίου.

Αριστερά : πόνος στον κρόταφο· λεπτή έκκριμα από το ρουθούνι· πόνος στο καρδιακό άκρο του στομαχιού· πόνος στον ώμο· σουβλιές γύρω από την ωμοπλάτη· πόνος στην άκρη του ώμου (ακρωμιακή απόφυση), κάτω από την κλείδα και κατά μήκος του βραχίονα· κράμπα στο γαστροκνήμιο· σύρσιμο στο δάχτυλο του ποδιού.

Τα συμπτώματα πηγαίνουν από τα δεξιά προς τα αριστερά.

Από κάτω προς τα πάνω : πόνος από τη ρίζα της μύτης· πόνος στο καρδιακό άκρο του στομαχιού.

Από πάνω προς τα κάτω : πόνος στον αριστερό ώμο. *^ Αισθήσεις. Σαν κάτι να είναι καρφωμένο στην ουρήθρα.

Σαν τα ούρα να συνεχίζουν να ρέουν μετά την ούρηση.

Ο θώρακας αισθάνεται κούφιος.

Κοπές : στην ουρήθρα.

Διαπεραστικοί πόνοι : μέσα από τη δεξιά πλευρά του θώρακα· μέσα από τη μέση της πλάτης προς το ιερό οστό.

Σουβλιές : στα μάτια.

Σουβλιές: έξω από την ουρήθρα· στη βάλη του πέους· γύρω από την αριστ. ωμοπλάτη· μέσα από τον θώρακα· στην καρδιακή περιοχή.

Τσούξιμο : στον ουρηθρικό πόρο.

Κάψιμο : των παρειών· στον λαιμό· στον πρωκτό· στην ουρήθρα.

Σφιξίματα : στη γλώσσα.

Ευαισθησία : στον πρωκτό.

Πόνος : στους κροτάφους· στο μέτωπο· του εγκεφάλου.

Πίεση : στους κροτάφους· στο μέτωπο· προς τα μάτια από το μέ- τωπο· από τη ρίζα της μύτης προς το μέτωπο.

Συρμός : πάνω από τα φρύδια· στις βουβωνικές περιοχές· στο αριστ. δάχτυλο του ποδιού.

Ρευματικός πόνος : στην καρδιακή περιοχή κατά την ούρηση.

Ρευματικός πόνος : μεταξύ των ωμοπλατών· στη δεξιά μασχάλη.

Πόνος εξάρθρωσης : στον τράχηλο του δεξιού μηριαίου.

Αίσθηση μωλωπισμού : στους μύες του μηρού.

Σφιγκτικός πόνος : στην καρδιακή περιοχή.

Στένωμα : του θώρακα.

Κράμπες : στο αριστ. γαστροκνήμιο.

Αόριστος πόνος : στους οφθαλμικούς βολβούς· στον θώρακα· στο καρδιακό άκρο του στο-\nμαχιού προς τον αριστ. ώμο· στην ακρωμιακή απόφυση της αριστ. ωμοπλάτης· κά- τω από την κλείδα και κατά μήκος του βραχίονα.

Τραχύτητα : στον λαιμό.

Πληρότητα : στην κοιλιά.

Βαριά αίσθηση : στο μέτωπο.

Ζεστασιά : του προσώπου.

Γαργάλημα : στα μάτια. ** Ιστοί. ; Ουρική αρθρίτιδα.

I Ανασαρκία.
