About Homeopathy Library
What this is
Homeopathy Library is a reference library of the classical homeopathic materia medica. The original books were written between 1880 and 1935 and are in the public domain: Boericke's Pocket Manual, Clarke's Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica, Kent's Lectures, Hering's Condensed Materia Medica, Allen's Keynotes, Nash's Leaders, Lippe's Materia Medica, Boger's Synoptic Key, Anshutz's New, Old and Forgotten Remedies, Paterson's paper on the bowel nosodes, the remedies of T. F. Allen's Encyclopaedia that no other book covers, and the nosode material collected by Robert Séror. The texts were digitised from public-domain copies of the original print editions and restructured for this library.
How the texts were processed
Each book was split into one entry per remedy, and each entry into its sections (Mind, Head, Modalities, Relations, Dose and so on), so that the same remedy can be read across every author. Clinical rubrics, relations between remedies (antidotes, complements, comparisons) and dosage notes were extracted from the text itself, with the book that states each fact recorded beside it. Nothing was rewritten; apparent errors in the originals were left as printed.
The Greek edition is a machine translation of the English texts, reviewed for consistency of terminology (potency is rendered δυναμοποίηση, modalities τροπικότητες). Remedy names are kept in Latin in both languages. Where a passage has not yet been translated, the English text is shown.
What this is not
These are historical texts. They record what nineteenth and early twentieth century physicians observed and believed. They are not medical advice, they are not a guide to self-treatment, and their presence here is not a claim that any remedy works. The research page links to published studies so that readers can weigh the evidence themselves. If you are unwell, consult a qualified practitioner.
Who runs it
The site is built and maintained by Peter Skaronis, as a personal project, in Vancouver, Canada. The texts are public domain; the structure, translations, illustrations and code of this site are © Peter Skaronis. The illustrations are original watercolour sketches made for this library.
For software
The whole library is also available to AI assistants and other software through an MCP server at https://homeopathylibrary.com/mcp (search, remedy profiles, repertorisation, relations, research), and a short machine-readable summary lives at /llms.txt.
