Apis Mellifica

In exanthematous diseases with rheumatic complications Apis is invaluable, especially if it has the peculiar wax-like, swelling of the joints, with prostration, fever but no thirst, together with the other concomitants.

The eye symptoms are of importance.

In chronic articular rheumatism it has proved of value with the same general symptomatology.

In all conditions it should be carefully differentiated from Rhus tox., because Apis and Rhus tox. are inimical.

Apis follows well after Arsenicum album.

HEAD AND FACE. — (Apis)

ARTHRITIC OPHTHALMIA WITH PHOTOPHOBIA.

Rheumatic affections of the eye, with violent stitches in eye and around it, < at night.

RHEUMATIC AFFECTIONS - OF EYE WITH BITING BURNING PAINS.

STIFFNESS OF THE BACK.

Great weakness of whole back on both sides of spinal column, cannot lie on back.

LOWER PORTION OF DORSAL REGION FEELS AS IF IT WERE BRUISED.

BURNING PRESSING IN REGION OF COCCYX < FROM ANY ATTEMPT TO SIT DOWN ; EVENINGS.

Chills run over the back.

Stitching in right side of chest at fifth rib, < on moving arm, extending to xyphoid, impeding respiration.

SUPERIOR EXTREMITIES. — (Apis)

Sticking pain fixed in right deltoid muscle radiating to scapula and elbow joint, < by motion.

PAINS IN ARMS INCREASING, DARTING IN CHARACTER, NO LONGER ABLE TO RAISE RIGHT ARM TO HEAD.

Sticking pains in right forearm.

NUMBNESS OF HANDS AND FINGERS, ESPECIALLY THE TIPS.

INFERIOR EXTREMITIES. — (Apis)

(Sore pain about the left hip joint.)

BURNING PAIN IN BOTH LIMBS FROM THIGHS TO ANKLES, COULD NOT MOVE THE FEET.

OEDEMA OF FEET AND LEGS.

Boring from thighs to ankles, could not move feet.

Knees feel as if beaten and bruised.

VIOLENT PAIN IN LEFT KNEE, MORE SWELLING AND PAIN OUTSIDE AND TO FRONT.

SENSATION IN TOES AND FEET ON REMOVING SHOES AT NIGHT AS IF TOO LARGE ; SWOLLEN, HEAVY AND STIFF.

RHEUMATIC LAMENESS OF LIMBS AND EFFUSION INTO JOINTS.

EXTREMITIES IN GENERAL. — (Apis)

Trembling of the limbs.

PAINS SUDDENLY MIGRATE FROM ONE PART TO ANOTHER.

Redness of hands, wrists, feet and ankles.
